Joseph A. Louden

Joe Louden has devoted more than 35 years to music ministry as Music Director at St. Helena's Catholic Church. For 25 years, he also served Ursuline Academy in a variety of roles, including Choir Director, Theater Musical Director, Campus Minister, and Director of Music Ministry.

Throughout his career, Joe has brought a wide variety of musical experiences to the community. He created the concert series at St. Helena's, welcoming ensembles ranging from choirs from St. Petersburg, Russia, to the University of Florida and the University of Delaware. He also co-created St. Helena's Annual Spiritual Festival, celebrating the connection between music, faith, and community.

An active performer on both organ and piano, Joe has accompanied the Delaware All-State Choir for more than 25 years, as well as the University of Delaware Chorus. He has also served as musical director for numerous local theater productions, including The Brandywine's recent production of Ragtime, along with productions at other area theaters. At Stonegates Retirement Community, he created the Swingin' Gate Singers, providing another opportunity for singers to share their love of music.

At the heart of Joe's musical life is the St. Helena's Choir, which has remained his number-one weekly rehearsal and a source of countless concerts and musical experiences over the years. His musical interests span centuries and styles, from Renaissance polyphony and sacred music to classical repertoire and gospel.

Joe considers his love and passion for music a gift from God for which he is deeply grateful. For him, music is more than a profession—it is a lifelong calling, a way to serve others, and, quite simply, his first love.
